Seasons Greetings

I'm cruising down to the South West of France tomorrow to do the whole Christmas, family, overeating, under exercising, constant state of mild drunkenness thing... should be nice. I'll also be meeting my newest nephew for the first time (the one who waited for me to leave Madrid to be born, so I'm not sure he's quite as keen on meeting me come to think about it...).I won't be blogging while I'm down there but I will be shooting so I'll have a bunch of material for when I get back. I'm also going to post '11 from 2011' to kick off next year - I'm quite looking forward to selecting the best moments. It's been a pretty good year. In the meantime the weather has been pretty mild in Brussels but we did have one evening of proper snow... so that's my xmas card of sorts.

Beautiful day - biked, swam, lay in a park, ate good food and then Nuit Blanche in the streets of Brussels. This doesn't mean I stayed up all night, I didn't. The Nuit Blanche is a yearly event in Brussels, with a number of art installations and performances scattered around the city center - a sort of showcase of comtemporary artistic expression. I love the idea and that it draws out such a mixed crowd (children, funksters, grannies like me...) but it's even better when it's warm out. Here's a tipsy little attempt at some time lapsing.

Still not allowed to exercise properly so I walked around the Flagey lakes with my camera while Angie and Mireille went for a run. Bumped into Claire and Flip on the way home, which is the nice thing about this city -  and the fact most of my friends live within a 2k radius. I remember being completely astounded everytime I bumped into anyone when I first moved here from London - where  randomly meeting someone you know is considered a mini-miracle, as is acknowledging them rather than staring into the distance pretending not to see them. Off to see Noam Chomsky speak on the economic crisis, war and social transformation at the ULB - a wonderful privilege, so inspiring and thought inducing - and amazing how active and quick his brain is at 82.

January 02 11

January in Barcelona is warmer than May in Brussels - had breakfast sitting on the terrace in short sleeves. I want to move here! Cruised up to Montjuïc via cable-car and hung out there till the sun went down. Walked back to the Barrio Gotico, cocktails at Rabipelao. Sad we have to go back to freezing Brussels tomorrow :(
