I proudly fulfilled my civic duty today and voted for the French socialist party primaries... it's been ages since my admin has been in order enough for me to be registered to vote anywhere, so it felt quite satisfying. I was so excited I forgot to snap a photo, and then failed again to shoot anything at Nora's brunch. Instead waited till dark... I posted something about these shapes a while ago, but rather than disappearing, a load more models have been added to the window display, it looks pretty funky.

Stayed in bed till 3pm - slept, read tintin, watched masterchef... a pretty chill sunday. I'm trying to be fighting fit for the coming week in... CORSICA, one of my favorite places in the world... that I know of. Headed off to Paris tonight with Angie as our flight is at stupid o'clock tomorrow morning and we didn't fancy waking up at 3am, so Ibis Orly airport it is. The familiarity is quite comforting, I used to stay in Ibis's quite a lot for work.

Lazy morning before convening with the girls, guys, babies and dogs in the Parc Tenbosch for another sunny picnic - v lucky with the weather this weekend! We didn't have much of a plan B, which is probably not a good move in Brussels. chilled there until it was time for the Paris crew to head back - dropped Noemi off at the station and headed home to do nothing. Having a bit of camera breather - not feeling like taking it everywhere with me, so a random rainbow photo today - it's actually a couple of years old, shot from the balcony of my old flat.

Catherine & Eric live in the prettiest part of Wallonia, in the very rural area around Jodoigne.  They both work in education - she teaches 17 year olds and he works with disabled adults - and have two adorable and polite small children. Getting there was a bit of a traffic nightmare - probably not very clever to plan the shoot at rush hour - so light was at a premium when I finally arrived (not without the GPS deciding to go a little psycho on me) but I'm gaining a whole new level of appreciation for the longer days. I hung around a little for a glass of wine and to soak in the relaxed vibe before heading home, in record time.

Still not allowed to exercise properly so I walked around the Flagey lakes with my camera while Angie and Mireille went for a run. Bumped into Claire and Flip on the way home, which is the nice thing about this city -  and the fact most of my friends live within a 2k radius. I remember being completely astounded everytime I bumped into anyone when I first moved here from London - where  randomly meeting someone you know is considered a mini-miracle, as is acknowledging them rather than staring into the distance pretending not to see them. Off to see Noam Chomsky speak on the economic crisis, war and social transformation at the ULB - a wonderful privilege, so inspiring and thought inducing - and amazing how active and quick his brain is at 82.

We've landed on Koh Lanta for the next ten days - it was difficult to decide which of the hundreds of islands to head for but we're not regretting it so far. Koh Lanta lacks the awesome limestone outcrops of other islands but is peppered with impressively long beaches with crystal clear water - and the atmosphere is decidedly relaxed.

January 02 11

January in Barcelona is warmer than May in Brussels - had breakfast sitting on the terrace in short sleeves. I want to move here! Cruised up to Montjuïc via cable-car and hung out there till the sun went down. Walked back to the Barrio Gotico, cocktails at Rabipelao. Sad we have to go back to freezing Brussels tomorrow :(
