Last day in Thailand and we finally made it to the Great Palace, which is not such a bad place to fill the head with 'Thainess'. It's quite overwhelming really, every square centimeter is adorned with jewels, gold, tiling ... I realise that taking photos is quite handy for focussing on it piece by piece!
Back in BKK, staying on the Khao San road, otherwise known as backpacker central - which is better than sex tourism central and good for last minute gift shopping. I feel a little old here, everyone looks about 18 and, as I head to bed, are just starting out on their first buckets, yes buckets, of rhum.
Last day in BKK, just in time to catch some public boxing at the National Stadium. I can't say I'm too sad to leave Bangkok - I love the energy, messiness and contradictions but I'm ready for a holiday!
Pounded pavement all day long... so this seemed fitting! It's so hot in BKK, I've taken to skipping from shadow to shade as I walk around. The hotel we're staying in for Angie's conference is slap bang in the sex tourism neighbourhood (a tad inappropriate since her conference is on gender equality) which is starting to grind me down a little... it's one thing to read about it... quite another to witness.
Jetlagged and overwhelmed in BKK - my first big Asian metropolis. Feeling slightly overdosed on sights, smells, sounds, heat... can't wait to explore.
