Dinner at Canan's - sushi & white wine. Made it an early one cos we were all a bit knackered but then I got stuck watching Democracy Now's coverage of the Troy Davis execution - I was thoroughly glued and appalled, not quite believing I was watching this unfold in America. Hopefully the attention surrounding this specific case helps turn a shocking event into something positive in the future.

Stuck on the nostalgia theme apparently - I came across my 'first ever photo' . It seems quite fitting that it would be of my brother James in the garden of our mountain home, with the swing set in the background; a few of my favorite things. I'm a bit disappointed that it's out of focus and shows no signs of any special talent but cool that my obsessive hoarding/collecting means that I still have this. Shame I didn't hoard the camera as well, although I remember it quite well, a little red and black point and shoot that I was given for my 8th (?) birthday.

Summer 2011

Here we go - three months of silence on the daily blogging front means some images are very much overdue. It would take me until next September to sort shots into the correct days and find images for those days when I simply lay in the sun and did nothing (or the lying in the couch when avoiding the rain when I was in Belgium).  Instead, I have thrown a few images in a vaguely random order into a slideshow format - as sort of 'this is the summer that was...' with some holidaying and some commissioned stuff. In the meantime, I have also added a new portfolio gallery from a trip to Cape Town's schools.

July - EI World Congress

I was in South Africa's stunning Cape Town for a couple of weeks in July - shooting Education International's World Congress and taking some time to work on some personal project material. Rather than post all the images day by day here, I thought it would make more sense to point you to the Flickr photostream set up for the occasion... these shots were thrown up every day as the congress sessions ended but for a rush select and edit, I think they're not bad. Go here to check them out.

And down it came - 12 hours to mount, and 1 to take down. Feeling a little blue! Laura and Micha popped in just too late to see it up but in time to grab a quick drink before heading back to Köln. Traipsed home, unloaded car and hung out with the family for a bit. Marie H, Sophie, Flip & Claire came round for a BBQ and lemon mousse (thanks James & Camille). Watched Gran Torino after they all left - brilliant!

June 29 2011

The All Styles Welcome exhibition is officially on. Phew. I never thought that the Belgian sun would be an issue, but it's incredibly hot in the space which makes it quite difficult to linger... I'm selfishly wishing for rain. Opening this evening which was cool - nice to see people making the effort to head over and Samah even hooked me up with champagne. So far so good. Parents arrived at Gare du Midi around 1030 so grabbed them and headed off for a late supper at Le Comptoir  - Ilia was with us, in town for a few short hours only.

June 24 2011

The ultimate 'couch photo' today... if I'm lying perfectly horizontal with my head slightly propped up by a cushion this is my view! Henri chilling at ours in the evening - Kate & M dropped in (saving us from an evening of the bean game!) with great news - M is off to Vancouver (that's not the good part, the  good part is the job waiting for him there). Some celebratory boozing and hanging.

June 15 2011

It's been ten years since I finished my Bachelor's degree...that's a vague milestone I suppose, and I liked this ten. Saw the test prints for the exhibition today and they are looking good, so that's a relief... I can now definitely recommend these printers. Evening in Chatelain with pretty much the whole crew and some... the last vodka was probably a bad idea, I'll know tomorrow.
